Especially interesting was his contact with Nelson Barbour. We have to talk about him for a while first to understand how the idea about an invisible presence of Jesus Christ developed.

We have to go back even further to understand Nelson Barbour and things influenced him in a special way. William Miller was one of the first to start to research the scriptures after the french revolution. He started to investigate the bible in 1820 something and started from the first page in the bible it took him two years.

He found many things in the scripture but one thing that affected him the most was the 2300 evenings and morning from Daniel 8:14. This led him to adopt the idea of a 2300 year prophecy with a day for a year principle. He counted from the 457 which took him to the year 1843. He read in the book of Daniel that the sanctuary should be cleansed when the 2300 year was fulfilled and that gave him the idea that the sanctuary was the earth and that the kingdom would come and the earth should be a paradise.

The disappointment was great when the year 1844 came and nothing happened. Many left the movement because of disappointment and some because of the great persecution that come over them as a result of their failed predictions. Miller and his followers started to investigate the scripture to see what was wrong with their interpretation. They found that the sanctuary mentioned in Daniel 8 did not refer to the earth but according to the about the heavenly sanctuary.

One of them that was discouraged was Nelson Barbour he went to Australia and started a business there and did not engage for many years in studying the scriptures. The years went by and the second Adventist’s and Millers followers eventually grew into a movement we know know as the seventh day Adventist’s movement.

William Miller and the seventh day Adventist’s had a different starting point for the 1290 and the 1335 days prophecy in Daniel 12;11-12 namely the year 508.

And from the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the abomination [n]of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. 12 Blessed is the one who is patient and attains to the 1,335 days!

So as we see from the time that the regular sacrifice (daily spiritual service by the church) is abolished and the abomination (Papal Rome) was set up it will be 1290 days not 1260 days. Why did the angel say 1290 here instead of in the other instance where it says 1260 days? The reason is that there was 30 years of fighting by the little horn (Clovis the first king of the Franks)

mentioned in Daniel 7;24 when he fought against three of the 10 horns the Visigoths, Vandals and the Ostrogoth’s.

It took Clovis thirty years from 508 to 538 AD to defeat all three horns or kings. It is worth to remember that all three where arian kingdoms and they where defeated in the year 538 and that is when the 1260 years of Papacy rule began. The Bishop in Rome hated these three horns because they denied that Jesus and God was the same person.

So the 1335 days ends in 1843 which as far as I can see starts the proper restoration of the sanctuary and the harvesting of the saints.

The 1290 days is about the ending of the papacy rule in 1798 just that it has another starting point than the 1260 days. It differs with 30 years and it is probably because of the wording in Daniel 12. it says there

And from the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the abomination of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days.

The regular sacrifice was abolished when Clovis started to invade the three horns and it took 30 years for the abomination to be fully set up. It was already at work when Clovis was baptized as a catholic orthodox by the bishop in Rome. The Bishop had his own agenda he wanted to invade the only three kings that still where arian, namely the three horns. This Clovis did willingly to please the Bishop. This friendship ended up with the fully established Papacy in the year 538.

We will again see some history of the establishment of the idea of 1874 for the invisible presence of Jesus.

One reason in my mind that the idea that Jesus came invisibly the year 1874 developed is the same reason that William Miller tried to understand why nothing happened the year 1844. He and those that supported him said that their expectation’s where wrong but the date was right. They said that the earth was not the sanctuary but the sanctuary was in heaven and that sanctuary according to them was cleansed the year 1844. I will go more into detail with this on the link 1844.

The same thing happened to Nelson Barbour and Charles Taze Russel after the year 1874 came and went and nothing happened. Actually Nelson Barbour had already been through this, the year 1844 for he was older than C-T Russel. The year 1869 he together with some friends in a study group came up with this idea that Jesus had to come first invisibly for his church before He comes to judge the earth together with his bride.

I think that this Jesus can do remotely, namely to collect his church he does not have to be here physically to do that.

This he did maybe to prevent himself for the disappointment if nothing would happen the year 1874. Nothing happened and both he and C-T Russel said that he did come but he came invisible to collect his church. C-T Russel also later said that the millennium the thousand year reign also started 1874 which Bible-students claim until today. He also said that the seventh trumpet started to blow at the year 1874 and it continues to blow during the thousand years.

So let us read from 1 thess 4;16

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord

Does this sound like an invisible second coming and the inauguration of the 1000 year millennium. A prominent seventh day Adventist called this idea a secret presence and rapture.

Of course you can say that Jesus came invisibly no one can proof the opposite but is it reasonable to think like this when so many scripture tell us about a very explicit and world wide obvious second coming of Jesus.

Let us read what Jesus himself said about this in Matthew 24;23-27

Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the [s]Christ,’ or ‘He is over here,’ do not believe him. 24 For false christs and false prophets will arise and will provide great [t]signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the [u]elect. 25 Behold, I have told you in advance. 26 So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. 27 For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man

So here we can see from Jesus own words that the second coming of Jesus is a very world wide explicit clear, seen by all event, not a secret being in the inner room as he says.

We shall try to understand where the doctrine about Jesus invisible return 1874 comes from and if it is supported by the scriptures For a long time I have been wondering about one of Bible-students most important doctrine namely the … Continue reading →

["post-91","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
