The thought came to me that one reason for the fact that Br Russel solved the problem with why the rapture collectively did not occur at the year 1874 was that he changed the meaning about the rapture to that it occurs when each christian die and then he\/she do not sleep in death but was changed in an instance in the twinkling of an eye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By this he did a workaround for the fact that the rapture as it is described in the bible did not occur 1878.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was thinking this is similar to what the millerist\u2019s did after the great disappointment 1844 they said \u201cwell Jesus did obviously not return to restore paradise the year 1844 so we change it to the meaning that Jesus did come, but he came invisible to the holy of holy in the temple in heaven\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This kind of reasoning is easy to adapt if you want an explanation why things did not happen as you expected. The same thing happened after the year 1874 and after the year 1878 when nothing happened either the 1874 or the year 1878. Russel and his followers expected Jesus to return and usher in the millennium and restore paradise and resurrect the sleeping humankind. They also expected the rapture to occur the year 1878 but it did not happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The way Br Russel dealt with this was to say that the scripture in 1 Thessalonian 4 15 \u2013 17 that said <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAfter that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Br Russel concluded that this scripture did not necessarily mean that they will be taken away as a group at the same time, he said that it could also mean that each member when they die they will be immediately resurrected to their heavenly reward as individuals. By doing this he created a workaround for the failed expectation that they should all have been resurrected at the year 1878.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
